She sat there, with her troubled thoughts
Of what life she wanted to live
Worrying about the past
And all the thing's she can't forgive.
He browsed through profiles, killing time
As he found he often did
When accidently he stumbled across
A profile that he found good.
She searched through picture upon picture
Of her newest baby neice
For it was only when looking at her
Did the world bring her some sort of peace.
He messaged her but merely a line
Asking about her life
It took only a moment of his time
But a moment without strife.
She opened her mailbox with no hope
That a letter would be there
And came across his little note
Thinking he asked but didn't care.
He waited, not expecting a reply
For the letter wasn't much
A general hello, how are you
A small gesture, gentle touch.
She smiled as she read it
Though short, it seemed so sweet
And replied with a ring of truth
Knowing they would never meet.
And on and on they wrote again
Talking about poetry, life and art
He quickly learnt much about her
And her awareness he was smart.
He probably didn't realize it that day
When he first sent her a note
That with the simply gesture there
Her hopes once agian could float.
Now she waits excitedly
Each day to hear from him
For in each moment that she reads
Her life banishes all grim.
He writes and writes, laughs and jokes
As he learns once again to cope
Little does he realize
Each letter gives her hope.
Hope that she's not so alone
Hope for what's to come
Of a friendship developing over distance
Something that takes away the numb.
She sees a part of herself
In the way he talks and writes
And know's no matter how thing's turn out
He's bought her afew more nights.
Nights of feeling accepted
Of not hiding behind a mask
Of writing what she truely things
And questions she can ask.
The newest friend within her life
Though distance keeps them apart
It doesn't matter for in her mind
His friendship will always be in her heart.
This girl that I can speak about
Wants this friend to know
That through that small gesture of his
He's continued to help her grow...
Of what life she wanted to live
Worrying about the past
And all the thing's she can't forgive.
