It wasn't all that long ago
Her world came crashing down
Time comes and time goes
This world keeps turning around.
Tears fell all around her
As they gathered 'round the bed
Reflecting on all they should have done
All they should have said.
Weren't they all gathered here
But a short few months before
Fighting hard to smile
Putting on that 'Im okay' show?
She remembered deja vu
As it all seemed in replay
Her grandfather lying on that bed
Fighting hard to stay.
Broken bruised and battered
Her family hovered by
She had stood there like a stone
Determined not to cry.
She never got to say goodbye
Never seen him dressed in his best
Turned a blind eye to the ground
When they laid him down to rest.
Had it really been a year ago
Since they had both moved on
Some times it seems just yesterday
Others, a long time gone.
Oh, how I miss you Papa
Your jokes when thing's gone wrong
Your smile, your expressions
The way you always made me feel I belong.
I wish you could be here
To meet my beautiful little girl
I know you'd like her grandpa,
My very own pearl.
But someone once told me that Heaven
Is like a magic mirror
That through the gaze of clouds
The images are clearer.
So I know that you are watching
And wishing you could be here
To help guide each and every one of us
Through this new brought year.
Tell Grandma not to worry
I"ll try my very best
To help our family grow and learn
And to always remember we're blessed.
Papa, you be good now
And share that rocking chair
You must remain in Heaven
So you can watch over us from there.
And when my daughter's grown up
And asks me where you guys might be
I'll take her hand and tell her
Why, they're watching over you and me...
